The useful settings are already filled in.

The preset searches for the highest-quality JPG no larger than 20 KB, then keeps it above 18 KB when JPEG padding is safe. This is more honest than claiming every image can have one exact byte count.

RulePix performs the resize and compression inside your browser. The original image is never sent to HandyTrove, and the downloaded copy has no watermark.

01

Signature images

Simple, high-contrast images survive a tiny file budget better than detailed photographs.

02

Small form photos

If the portal also specifies pixels, turn on exact dimensions and enter them before processing.

03

Strict upload ceilings

Open the downloaded JPG and confirm that text, facial details, and edges remain clear.

01Choose an image

Use a clear original whenever possible.

02Review the loaded rule

Change the format or dimensions only if your portal says so.

Will the result be exactly 20 KB?

The preset targets an 18–20 KB window. Upload portals normally enforce a maximum or range, and exact byte counts are neither stable nor visually useful.

Why can a detailed photo look soft at 20 KB?

Twenty kilobytes is a very small budget. Large dimensions and detailed backgrounds require stronger compression. Use the smallest permitted dimensions and a clean source image.

Can I keep the original dimensions?

Yes, the preset starts with exact dimensions turned off. If the original cannot fit below 20 KB, RulePix gradually reduces its dimensions rather than stretching it.
